A former journalist, Jay Carney honed his skills reporting for Time from Moscow and, later, Washington, D.C., where he covered the Clinton White House. He worked as the magazine’s Washington bureau chief from 2005 to 2008. After serving as Vice President Joe Biden’s director of communications, he became President Barack Obama’s second press secretary in 2011.
